Last  Thursday, March 14th,  I had the privilege of rolling out RMI’s Hope for Kidz Deworming Program in all of our Hope for Kidz schools.  This was an exciting day for us at RMI!  Hope for Kidz enables individuals to sponsor a Haitian child to go to school.  A sponsorship covers the cost of tuition, registration fees, books, uniform and shoes.  In the last few years we’ve added a hot lunch program in many of those schools and have been able to include more schools every year.  RMI truly believes that an education provides kids with hope for their future.  A healthy child is better equipped to learn.  We have seen the impact that the Hot Lunch program is having: it is improving the health of all the kids involved.  We also believe that by deworming the kids every year, the kids will be healthier and will greatly decrease the

“A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.” — Tim Cahill       This is especially true for RMI President, Dan Shoemaker, this week.  If the miles were counted, he would indeed be weary!  4700+ miles between the Petersburgs.  Saturday Dan presented RMI’s ministries to a church missions committee in St. Petersburg, Florida.  It was exciting to see them grasp the concepts of having a long term, in-depth relationship with a Sister Church and realize the potential that it could have for their congregation.  Tuesday Dan then journeys to Seattle where he will stay with friends in a Sister Church there before continuing Wednesday to Petersburg, Alaska.  Though Petersburg Bible Church finds itself in a small fishing village on an island, it is excited to be a Sister Church.  Yes, they travel all the way to Haiti to visit their Sister Church.  Yes, it’s a long, long, very long way,

Can you imagine what it would be like to have a school of 380 kids and only 1 outhouse?  Well, perhaps you don’t want that mental image in your head.  Let’s just say that it’s not pretty. One Sister Church wanted to show their love and concern for the kids in their Sister Church’s school by building them a deluxe, solid outhouse.  What does building an outhouse in Haiti look like?  This will help give you an idea… Step 1:  Frame the hole and line the sides with cement. Step 2:  Make it a very, very deep hole! Step 3:  Frame the roof of the hole which will serve as the floor of the outhouse itself. Step 4:  Bring in more cement. Step 5:  Have a good place nearby to mix the cement…by hand. Step 6:  Pour the roof / floor. Step 6:  Make sure the place holders are there

He has been taking a new medicine which is experimental.  This is pretty much his last hope for help.  He went in last week to get tested to see how things were going.  The doctor was so excited with the results that he called Jules Wednesday evening.  His blood results had been going up up up and were at 2.1.  The doctor had said that Jules needed a 1.2 reading to be where he should be.  The new medicine has worked!  PTL!  His tests came back at 1.2, which is amazing!  He has only been on this medication for a short while so for it to be working so well is awesome!  This is a big answer to prayer for him.   We need to continue to pray that the meds will continue to keep the cancer at

A bit belated, but we wanted to make sure that even though this was sent via snail mail, that it get posted for those of you who did not have the chance to see it. As you look back at 2012, what do you see?  Triumphs?  Challenges?  Hard times?  Celebrations?  We here at RMI see many of the same things.  As a friend and partner of RMI, we thought you’d like to see our reasons for celebrating.  In 2012 we’ve seen… 1 church building built expanding the ministry of that congregation 1 Global Leadership Summit providing leadership development for 80 Sister Church leaders as well as 120 other leaders 2 Global Leadership Summit follow-up seminars enabling 30 leaders to bring leadership principles into a Haitian context 2 school classrooms built facilitating the schooling of another 80 children 3 new missionary couples accepted and now raising support – a real affirmation
