Haiti’s future is at stake. With a young population and a deeply flawed education system, the nation faces a critical challenge.
Only 55% of school-age children receive any education, and a mere 2% complete high school.
Nearly a third of young adults (ages 15-24) are illiterate.
Education is prohibitively expensive for most Haitians, forcing many to rely on low-quality, overcrowded public schools.
Without a quality education, Haiti’s potential remains untapped. Investing in a education is vital for breaking the cycle of poverty and building a brighter future.
Children who are nourished learn better. They are not preoccupied with being hungry. They are healthier and have more energy. Our Hot Lunch Program provides chicken flavored rice-based meals packed with the vitamins, protein, and minerals needed for optimal nutrition. Here is a complete list of the Nutritional Information.
The students bring their own bowl and spoon to school each day. Each teacher then assigns students in their classroom different responsibilities in distributing the food for each child in the class, teaching them leadership and responsibility. Not only do they eat a good meal, but it is a learning experience as well.
Hope for Kidz is a child sponsorship program that Reciprocal Ministries International (RMI) founded in 1999 to meet the educational and physical needs for Haitian children who are unable to attend school due to severe poverty.
Although Haitians place a strong value on education, the cost of tuition for both public and private schools is so high that few can afford to send their children to school.
Your sponsorship provides a needy child with the opportunity to hear about Jesus, receive a solid Christian education, their school entrance fee, school tuition and books for the year, school supplies, and a daily hot lunch (in some areas). Hope for Kidz is also conducts Community Health Training Initiatives in our Hope for Kidz schools including an annual de-worming and prevention education program. Hope for Kidz has instituted an Emergency Major Medical Needs Fund for sponsored children. For sponsors, Hope for Kidz provides financial and educational accountability, fund distribution, a picture and profile of each child, and the opportunity to periodically communicate with your child through letter writing. Additionally, Hope for Kidz staff make frequent visits to Hope for Kidz schools to check on facilities and curriculum, check on academic performance, get updated pictures, confirm your child’s school attendance, and confirm appropriate fund disbursement.
A picture and profile of each student is obtained by the Hope for Kidz Staff in Haiti and sent to the child’s prospective sponsor. Sponsorship funds are processed by the RMI office in Lehigh Acres, FL and then are transferred to the RMI office in Haiti. Once funds have been received in Haiti, they are distributed to the appropriate pastor of the school’s parent church and the school administrator for the children in that school. The pastor and administrator are then responsible to distribute the monies as designated. They are required to give an accounting to the RMI Hope for Kidz staff.
September thru June.
Sponsoring a child is an annual cost of $480, or a monthly option of $40.
In order for the start-up costs to be covered by the beginning of school, the first monthly payment of $40 should be made by April. Annual payments of $480 should be made by July 31st.
New profiles will be distributed through your church’s Hope for Kidz coordinator.
Unless your child graduates or leaves the program, you can be assured that you will be continuing on with the same child. In the unlikely case that your child has graduated or left the program, your church’s Hope for Kidz Coordinator or RMI will work with you to provide you with a new child. Should your child not continue in the program and you do not choose to take on a new child, any funds received up until that point will be applied to the Hope for Kidz Program.
RMI will assume that you will be continuing your sponsorship of your child for as long as the child is available for sponsorship unless you indicate otherwise (a minimum of 12 months commitment). If your financial situation changes, please contact RMI as soon as possible. We would ask that you give us three months lead time before cancelling payment. This will enable us to find another sponsor for your child if at all possible.
